Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park (Gazebo Park)

Location: 8331 104 Street NW

McIntyre Park, commonly known as Gazebo Park, was named in honour of Dr. Wilbert McIntyre, a staunch political advocate for Strathcona who passed away in 1909 at the age of 42. More than 80 years after Dr. McIntyre’s death, McIntyre Park would become a gathering place for community advocates of a different kind. Today, the park serves as a wide, open space in the heart of Old Strathcona, a place for speakers or speculators, picnics or protests. It became a focal point of the Edmonton Fringe Festival, and was, for a time, a key site during Edmonton’s early Pride celebrations.
